U.S. Embassy Participated in a Workshop to Promote Stabilization in Yemen

Together with the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh and the Yemen Affairs Unit, and the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the Bureau of Conflict Stabilization Operations of the U.S. Department of State participated in a workshop on the principles of effective stabilization with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY). The workshop included participation from the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Fund for Development. The United States Charge d ’Affairs in Riyadh, Christopher Henzel, and Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed al-Jaber gave opening remarks at the workshop.
The workshop provided a framework and definition for stabilization discussions, and highlighted key challenges to stabilization efforts and offered lessons learned and best practices. The mission of the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations’ (CSO) is to anticipate, prevent, and respond to conflict that undermines U.S. national interests. U.S. policy in Yemen remains focused on working with our international partners to bring peace, prosperity, and security to Yemen. An enduring solution will only come through a comprehensive political agreement. We support the UN Special Envoy’s efforts and the UN-led political process in Yemen.
