The U.S. Mission continues to work with Saudi authorities to arrange repatriation flights to the United States from various Saudi cities on a commercial airline. No flights or departure/arrival locations have been confirmed at this time. When flights are confirmed, it will likely be with little advanced warning. We will inform by email all persons registered in the STEP system, post the information on the Mission website, and distribute it via the Mission ACS Twitter account. If you are unable to register in STEP, please send an email to the American Citizen Services Unit nearest to you (email addresses available below).
Persons interested in departing Saudi Arabia are responsible for completing all Saudi exit/entry procedures in advance; it will not be possible to do so at the airport. U.S. citizens with residence permits (iqamas) will in most cases be able to obtain exit/reentry permits on-line either independently (if they have an Absher account) or with the assistance of their sponsor. Persons with visas who have overstayed their authorized period of admission must resolve the matter in person at an office of the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat). Saudi authorities advise that Passport offices are functioning on regular hours (7:30 AM – 2:30 PM in most cases) but with reduced staffing. Ensuring that your travel documents, including passports and visas, are in order will be critical in ensuring a smooth departure. Immigration issues may take several days to be resolved; acting quickly increases the chances that you will be properly prepared to depart when flights are announced. Please see additional information on extending visas here: https://www.spa.gov.sa/viewfullstory.php?lang=en&newsid=2047837#2047837
Repatriation flights are being offered on an exceptional basis and will be limited in time. Please weigh this information carefully as you decide whether to depart the Kingdom or whether you would like to remain.
